CCVG Music Service Christmas Concerts December 2011
Over 800 young singers and musicians from across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan are preparing to get everyone in the festive spirit with a bumper schedule of seasonal concerts.
The Cardiff County and Vale of Glamorgan (CCVG) Music Service will be presenting no less than 9 performances this December involving 15 ensembles which have been busy rehearsing over recent months.
The seasonal entertainment starts with the CCVG Junior Schools’ Choir Christmas Concert at St German’s Church in Adamsdown on Monday, December 5th (7pm).
The annual Christmas Showcase takes place on Wednesday December 7th at St David’s Hall (7pm) with eight county ensembles: the Youth Brass Band, Training Brass Band, Advanced Percussion, High Schools’ Wind Band, Junior Jazz, Youth Big Band, High Schools’ Choir and High Schools’ Orchestra, plus a 250-strong Primary Cluster Choir consisting of the schools which feed into Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg while on Thursday 8th December the Transitional Wind Band will perform at St Andrew’s & St Teilo’s Church, Woodville Road (7pm – tickets available at the door).
On Saturday December 10th the Beginners’ and Foundation Brass Bands will perform on the Glanfa Stage of the WMC (10am) and Symphonic Brass will join with Llandaff Choral Society for their traditional Christmas Carol Service at Llandaff Cathedral (7.30pm), followed on Sunday 11th with the Cardiff Ardwyn Singers for their concert at All Saints Church, Penarth (7.30pm)
The annual Christmas Celebration takes place at City Hall on Monday, December 12th (7.30pm) and once again features the talents of the Youth Orchestra and Choir in a heart-warming concert (tickets available on the door).
The countdown to Christmas continues when the Youth Choir and Symphonic Brass join councillors, officers and staff at the annual County Hall Carol Service on Wednesday, December 14 (10.30am) and the Music Development Team perform Christmas Hits with secondary school pupils on the WMC Glanfa Stage (12.00 noon).
On Wednesday December 21st the season’s musical festivities will come to a conclusion when the Youth Orchestra perform at the BBC’s Hoddinott Hall at the WMC for the first time, featuring Mahler’s 6th Symphony.
